was born out of a need to
quietly and simply express my mourning.
I wanted others, even strangers, to know and acknowledge my grief ... yet society today does not encourage this.
In Victorian times, black wreaths were hung in windows and on doors
- black ribbons were placed around pictures and on mirrors - mourners
wore black - all to reflect and honor the loss of a loved one.
Based on these concepts, I have created a simple necklace - a small black wreath tied with black ribbon to an adjustable black silk cord necklace. A silver filigree star has been added to represent your loved one.
The
necklace could also be hung on a picture or over the mirror in your
car, or used as a bookmark
- making it appropriate for males or females.
When worn or displayed, the Mourning Star necklace will be an outward expression of your loss - and the door may open for others to ask about it, giving you the opportunity to tell your story.
